My First Book Launch Event!

This has been a year of firsts!

The first time I sold a short story, my first professional publication, first time working with an editor, and now, my first book launch event!

As much as I wanted to share more about this event beforehand, since it was organized by the Sisters in Crime organization that sponsored the anthology (and I am one of many authors included in the book) I didn't want to overstep my bounds.

Reading an excerpt.
Overall, we had a terrific turnout! The bookstore reported 125 attendees for the readings, (it was standing room only by the time we got started!), and nearly 50 copies of the book sold during the event.

Everything went as planned, with many of the contributing writers who read excerpts from their stories sharing this first-time publication experience with me.

This was the best photo I could find so far of my own reading. The happy downside (is that an oxymoron?) of a packed house, trying to get a photo without an arm or a head in the way!

We finished out the scheduled event with some refreshments, and an informal book signing.

A few more pictures from the day:

Carolina Crimes cake!

My first author autograph!

Finished the day with some delicious
eggs benedict.

Now you might think, with all these firsts that I might need a break. But who are we kidding?

I have another amazing new "first" event planned, and it involves YOU, dear Writing Desk Readers! I'll have an official announcement very soon, I can't wait to share my plans with you!

Who else has had any writing firsts this year? I'd love to hear about them!

  1. Congrats again! I was sad to miss this. Love that cake! Did all 125 people get a slice? :) The B&W choice for your reading picture is perfect.
