Get to Know the Author: JD Allen

It's been a year since the last time JD Allen was a guest on the blog, let's get to know her a little better before our video interview goes live!

Author Bio:

I attended The Ohio State University and earned a degree in physical anthropology and a creative writing minor. Writing Mysteries was not my first career or my second. Life's journey meanders.
It's never too late to reach for the brass ring. With the publication of the Sin City Investigation Series, my dreams of publishing gritty mysteries have been realized. I believe in giving back to the writing community that has supported me through the years. I'm a member of the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention National board and president of the Triangle Chapter of Sisters in Crime. I speak on the basics of crime scene investigation, voice, and public speaking.

Coming Soon: An Interview with JD Allen + SKIN GAME Giveaway

Hello, Writing Desk Readers!

Exciting news: Author JD Allen will be joining me again here on The Writing Desk Blog and we'll be giving away a signed copy of her latest Sin City Series novel Skin Game.

This interview is going to be in a completely new format for this blog. JD and I are doing a video interview! We recorded everything over the weekend, and I'll have a publication date by next week.

It was actually JD's idea, she has all of the necessary equipment and more experience with this type of interview. We discussed Skin Game, how to deal with sudden agent or publication company changes, and another first for the blog - building a successful career as a writer with dyslexia.

I'd love to know your opinion, do you prefer written or video interviews?

And the Winner Is...WARCROSS!

Thank you to everyone who voted for the first What Am I Reading Wednesday book of 2019!

It was a close race, but Warcross by Marie Lu won by just one vote!

I'll still be reading A Court of Wings & Ruin by Sarah J. Maas as well, but in this case Warcross is going to come first.

I really enjoyed opening up this decision to all of you, and I'm thinking this is how we'll do many of the WAIRW book choices from now on. Of course, recommendations are always welcome outside of the book polls as well!

Choose My Next 'What Am I Reading Wednesday' Book!

I have an idea, Writing Desk Readers!

I want you to choose the next book I read and feature on the first What Am I Reading Wednesday of 2019!

So many books, so little time.

If you've been following along with my Quarterly Goals, starting the WAIRW posts back up was the one goal I didn't achieve from Q1. I'll admit, part of the problem is how indecisive I am about which book to read and feature next. There are so many to choose from!

Here are our two choices:

1) A Court of Wings & Ruin, by Sarah J. Maas (Yes, I've already read the first two books in this series.)

2) Warcross, by Marie Lu (I snagged a signed copy while browsing a local bookstore.)

There will be a few different options for casting your vote:

- Comment on this blog post with your choice.
- Comment on the corresponding Instagram or Twitter posts.
- Vote in the live poll I will ad to my InstaStory.

I'll take everyone's votes until Monday, 8 April 2019, and then it's time to start reading!

If this works out well, this might be how I choose my What Am I Reading Wednesday books from now on. What do you think?
