Coffitivity + A Sneak Peek!

Has anyone else ever noticed that you can be working/writing productively out in a public space with all kinds of background noise, but try to work at home and the tiniest sound makes it impossible to concentrate?

If the answer is yes, then you are not alone! I absolutely cannot write at home if the TV is on or the dogs are barking at a passing car, yet I can sit in a coffee shop or some other public space and knock out 10,000 words in an afternoon! What gives?

(There's already been plenty of research on this concept, so I won't go into that here. Feel free to check out this example article from the Journal of Consumer Research if you're interested!)

My fellow background noise-lovers, I present to you: Coffitivity!

Coffitivity.com provides you with different selections of everyday background noise, including "morning murmur", "lunchtime lounge", and "university undertones". Since I've started listening to Coffitivity at home, I've been amazingly more productive.

And not just with writing, sometimes I'll have a little "lunchtime lounge" playing while I'm washing dishes or sorting through the mail.

I originally found Coffitivity thanks to the links page on writer Kim Chance's website, and then discovered they now have an app available for on-the-go background noise! I've even started using it at work if I have a particularly large project to tackle that day.

The app is free for iOS and Android, so you've got nothing to lose by checking it out!*

Now, it's time for today's Sneak Peek!

Drum-roll please...

BAM!

This isn't from the actual cover of the novel, because once again I couldn't give you a snippet without giving the title away. However, it's clearly linked to the title and also represented in a certain way on the cover.

What book do you think I'm reading this week? Let me know, and someone just might win themselves a copy!

*The Writing Desk Blog is not currently sponsored by Coffitivity.com. I enjoy sharing tools/tips that have worked for me and this happens to be one of them.*
