Writing Resources: The Dinner Party Show
Happy Monday!
Well, as happy as Monday can be for anyone.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! My Spring Cleaning binge continued, much to my dogs' confusion as to why I was cleaning up the messes they'd so carefully made. Is it possible to pull a muscle from cleaning too much? I think I might have...
Anyway, today we'll be continuing with our series on Writing Resources! Today's resource is...
The Dinner Party Show! - "Where everyone gets served!"
HOORAY!
First things first - The usual background info:
Podcast Title: The Dinner Party Show
Hosts: Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn
Year Created: 2012
Average Episode Length: 1 hour
Schedule: Sundays at 8:00pm EST/5:00pm PST
The Dinner Party Show is a podcast hosted by New York Times bestselling authors Christopher Rice and Eric Shaw Quinn! The podcast has a variety show component - think back to the glory days of radio when a handful of people would play multiple characters in a single episode. They have several "special correspondents" who make appearances throughout the show.
(Jordan Ampersand would probably pitch a fit if I didn't mention him so...there. I did it. Those who have already listened to the show will understand.)
In addition to discussing their own writing experiences, Christopher and Eric host a variety of guests including authors, screen writers, actors, and producers.
Recently a pretty exciting announcement was made on the podcast: The Dinner Party Show will soon be available in video format! So, listeners will not only get to hear Christopher, Eric, and their esteemed guests, but will be able to see them as well!
Will manservant Shea Butters make an appearance? We'll soon find out!
About the Hosts:
Christopher Rice
Christopher Rice has published a dozen works spanning the suspense/crime, supernatural thriller, and erotic romance genres. Both of his supernatural thrillers, "The Vines" and "The Heavens Rise", were nominated for a Bram Stoker Award!
He is also known for his honest portrayals of the experiences faced by young gay men in the United States.
If you're thinking his last name sounds familiar, then you're on to something. Christopher's parents are none other than the late poet Stan Rice and Vampire Chronicles author Anne Rice. (We're talking Lestat and Louis here, no *sparkly* vampires in sight.) Anne Rice is a frequent guest on the show, also known as the Premier Party Person!
Eric Shaw Quinn
Eric Shaw Quinn, co-host and executive producer of The Dinner Party Show, also boasts a broad range of writing credits. His first bestselling novel, "Say Uncle", brought the subject of gay adoption to the forefront of discussion.
Since then, Eric has released "Write Murder", the first in a comic mystery series inspired by his experience as a ghost writer for a certain celebrity (*cough* ReadWriteMurderIfYou'reCurious *cough*).
His latest novel, "The Prince's Psalm", is due out on June 7, 2016 and is available for pre-order now on Amazon!
So, is The Dinner Party Show dedicated solely to addressing beginning writers and providing advice? No, it's not. But that's kind of the point. A writing resource doesn't necessarily have to be "work related" 100% of the time to be a resource. Sometimes it can just be relaxed, or satirical, or accidentally spilling coffee on yourself as you listen to Christopher and Eric discuss sex with dame Jackie Collins (Yes, I admit that really happened!).
All archives for the podcast can be found at (http://thedinnerpartyshow.com/), along with more information about Christopher, Eric, their works, and upcoming plans for the show.
Enjoy!
PS - This week's featured resource is going to tie-in with What Am I Reading Wednesday! Stay tuned!
