What Am I Reading Wednesday (03/04/2020)

Welcome back to What Am I Reading Wednesday!

Title: The Lives of Tao

Author: Wesley Chu

First Reading: Yes

Initial Impression: An unconventional hero? (Check) Body snatching aliens? (Check) A funny and action packed science fiction series? (Double check)

Final Thoughts: I've already added the sequel, The Deaths of Tao, to my 2020 TBR list. I used one of my favorite methods of choosing new books/authors for this one and was not disappointed! (I'll explain later.)

This was my first time reading Wesley Chu's work and I can definitely say I'm a fan now!

I've always liked science fiction on its own, or blended into other genres, but I've never found a sci-fi book or series that blends action and comedy as seamlessly as Chu does in The Lives of Tao.

Imagine that nearly every major cultural achievement, war, or leap in technological advancement in history was helped along by a race of aliens that have been stranded on Earth. The only way for these non-corporeal aliens to survive, is to attach themselves to the brains of living hosts. Add in a rift between the two main schools of thought among them, (I'll give you a hint, there's a side that cares about what happens to the humans and a side that doesn't), causing a civil war that will affect everyone on earth whether they know it or not.

Now, we throw in a lazy IT tech whose only thought is when his next Chicago-style pizza will be eaten, pair him with one of the highest ranking aliens on the side that actually wants to save humanity, stir it all up and let the sparks fly!

If that doesn't make you want to read The Lives of Tao for yourself, I don't know what will!
