International Mermaid Day (2022)

Did you know, today is International Mermaid Day?

The more I’ve outlined and researched for To Kiss the Sea, my Little Mermaid & folklore retelling, the more I’ve had mermaids on the brain! Mermaid mythology can be found in cultures all over the world and no two stories or descriptions of how mermaids appear are the same.

To celebrate, I’m going to post FIVE mermaid trivia questions in my Instagram stories and will save them in my highlights. Let me know how you did in the comments! I’ll also share some of the pages belonging to my favorite professional mermaids!

Sponsored by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors®), this day is meant to share “love for the blue planet by pledging to put more mermaids and mermen into the ocean, serving as the voices for an ocean and all of its creatures - who can't speak for themselves”.

[Photo: An illustration of a beach at sunset. A mermaid lays on her stomach in the surf, with her tail waving in the air. Her dorsal fin and tail fins are jagged around the edges, and you can see the orange sky through the webbing. Though her face is turned away, we can see her golden skin and long, auburn hair.
