Writing Resources: The Writing Excuses Podcast

No matter what your writing style is, what genre(s) you prefer, or how much experience you have, there are resources available to writers that are invaluable. As I've been exploring the many resources available online and in my community, one that I've particularly drawn from is the Writing Excuses podcast.

In case you've never heard of it, here's a little background information:

Podcast Title: Writing Excuses

Hosts Brandon SandersonMary Robinette KowalHoward Tayler, and Dan Wells

Year Created: 2008

Average Episode Length: 15 minutes

Schedule: Sundays at 6:00pm EST

Writing Excuses has been around since before podcasts were considered cool. I discovered the show a couple of years ago, and was so impressed with the quality of the writing expertise the hosts provided that I went back into the archives on their website, started with episode one, and listened all the way through. It took a while, even with the episodes staying at around 15 minutes each, but it was well worth it!

Each episode deals with a specific aspect of the season's theme, with the hosts often joined by special guests. No matter what the theme or topic though, the show always touches on some form of writing advice, especially for beginning authors.

About the Hosts:

Brandon Sanderson has published over a dozen works as a fantasy and science fiction writer. He has also worked to help complete Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time.

Mary Robinette Kowal is the author of numerous short stories, as well as the The Glamourist Histories series. She is also a professional voice actor (you can't miss her voice on the podcast!) and puppeteer.

All episodes can be found at www.writingexcuses.com. Each week they also have a sponsored "Book of the Week" that can be downloaded through Audible Podcasts (their main sponsor).

I'd love to know what you all think of the podcast! If you're already a listener, what episodes have helped you most with your writing?

Enjoy!
